Student Showcase

Community Spirit and Leadership Award Winner

Ben received this Community Spirit and Leadership ward because he is an exceptional student. He is hard working and the work he does is always of a very high standard. He is caring towards other students and helps anyone who needs it. In the classroom he shows great leadership skills in both academic and non academic areas. He has been a part of a leadership group with the Leading Teacher in ICT and he is an active participant in the school’s LEEP program. Ben often comes to school and shares things he has done over the weekend which have included helping people less fortunate than himself. Overall, Ben is a beautiful boy who has a heart of gold and would go out of his way to see how you are and help anyone.

Community Award

I think community spirit is helping others, helping my community, and helping other communities. It is also helping small groups, but it is also being nice to everyone around you. You have to be respectful to things, like schools and subways (the train ones, otherwise I would have said shops) and people like fireman and policeman. But also people who don’t get as much respect from others like cleaners and Church ministers.  I think I received the award because I help others and I am respectful to others.

My visit to the Life Ed Van by Henna

On the 5th of August my class (2M) went to the life Ed Van.  There was a nice lady in the life Ed Van and a giraffe called Harold.  Harold was very, very, very funny!  We watched some movies and learnt how we keep our bodies fit, healthy and how to avoid bad hazards, such as: avoiding smoking and avoiding  little kids eating  and drinking medicines like pills.  My favourite part was when Harold bumped his head!

The Life Ed Van by Grant

When we got in the Life Ed Van we saw Harold. He Needed more super Heroes so he said that we could be Super Heroes but Harold went back to Head quarters. The lady said to Harold to mind the stairs but he slipped on his Skateboard and fell down the stairs .  He fell on his bottom and did a triple Somersault but if we wanted to be a super hero we had to pass 3 tests before we become a real super hero.  First we did the rules but they were not a test.  We did our three tick, two ticks and our one tick lesson and then we did beach safety.  Chloe L picked safety stuff for sunglasses, a hat and a box of sunscreen.  She looked really, really cool as well.

My visit to Harold’s heroes by Billy

I went to see Harold’s heroes it was fun. We had to do 3 tests. Before that we had to get 5 questions correct and I got one correct then there was a hoop of unhealthy and healthy food. I pulled off a banana and a box of biscuits. Then we did something else we watched a movie about Harold’s heroes I enjoyed watching the 4 heroes in the movie.

Indonesian Festival Report

On Saturday the 24th of October, one child from each grade six grade was going to the 2009 Indonesian Cultural Festival at Federation Square in Melbourne. I was chosen from 6D, Mark Morante from 6K, Maddy Day from 6Z, and Hayden Foster from 6W. We were guided on the day by Bui Daely. At the start, there were some dances, with the dancers wearing very intricate and effective costumes. The festival was full of white stalls, each stall representing a town or a ministry (e.g. East Kalimantan, Ministry of Youth and Sports). It was much neater than I thought it would be. After the dances, there was a cracker eating competition, without our hands. My friend Kristen and I, Mark and Hayden and some of their family all went the first time, Maddy and some of their families went the second. After that we went on to look at all the stalls with their beautiful products. We had been given $10 from the school to spend. After we had a look around, we went to the food stalls by the river and had lunch on the grass. When we went back to the stalls, we were allowed to start buying souvenirs. I got lots, like a fan and a statue of an elephant for my class. We had green-screen photos put on a bookmark to make it look like we were with an orang-utan, and we tried our hand at batik painting (which didn’t work well) and bracelet making (which worked very well). I had a fantastic time at that festival, and I would like to thank Bui Daely for guiding us on the day, and giving me and my friend the chance to go to the festival on that day.
