ROAD SAFETY

Traffic Regulations/School Crossings
We aska that parents reinforce the following major points-ac
Children are to stand back 1 metre from the edge of the crossing and wait for the crossing supervisor to indicate that it is safe to use the crossing.
The crossing supervisor will give two blasts on her whistle to indicate that it is safe to cross. CHILDREN MUST WAIT FOR THESE WHISTLE BLASTS.
Children must WALK between the lines and in front of the crossing supervisor when using the crossing.
If supervisor blows one continuous blast the children are to stop immediately.
Bike riders, tricycle riders and people using skate boards must WALK across the crossing.
In addition, all drivers should note that:
All cars must stop immediately the crossing supervisor steps from the kerb and not to proceed across the crossing until the supervisor is completely off the crossing.
Cars must not be parked within 18 metres of a crossing. Crossing supervisors have the power to "book" people who disobey this rule.
Cars are not permitted to park in, or use the Bus Parking Bay as a drop-off or pick-up point.

School Crossing Arrangements:

Four supervised children’s crossings are operational in our school's vicinity. Two crossings are provided in Mansfield Street , one at the crescent of the hill near Heard Close and one adjacent to Van Der Haar Drive . The third supervised crossing is located on the east side of the Mansfield Street/Princes Highway intersection and there is a supervised crossing on Collins Crescent . We ask that parents and children use these crossings with great care because of the volume of traffic using the streets near our school.
We suggest that because of the congestion in Collins Crescent and Mansfield Streets parents locate suitable off street parking from which their children can walk to school - during busy periods it is very difficult to stop or park in either of the above streets.
The crossings in precinct are supervised before and after school. The times are as follows:
8.00 am - 9.00 am (before school)
3.30 pm - 4.00 pm (after school)
Please note the 40km speed limits are in place on the roads around the school. These are permanent limits and are regularly enforced by police and traffic officers.
Use of School Car Parks
The main car park (entrance off Mansfield St ) is for the use by staff and official visitors only. The gravel car park (entrance off Collins Crescent ) and the gravel car park (entrance off Mansfield Street situated north of basketball courts along fence line) is available for use by parents when either dropping off or picking up their children. Please note that parents should escort their children to and from this car park for obvious safety reasons.
The Cyril Molyneux Reserve Car Park is also available for use by parents to either drop their children off or pick them up.
Bikes:
It is compulsory for children to wear well fitting helmets if they are to ride their bikes to school. Parents should also ensure that children are able to ride their bikes well and that they know the road rules. It is a firm rule that bikes are not to be ridden in the school yard. Bikes are to be parked in the bike compound adjacent to Collins Crescent car park. This will be locked during school hours. While every care will be taken with bikes the school cannot accept ultimate responsibility for them.
