Term Two Curriculum Overview for Visual Arts Prep-Year 6 2017

This term the children will be participating in various art activities, with a focus on the elements of visual arts. The children will be involved in painting, drawing, modelling, collage, textile craft and construction to develop skills and experiences.

Prep:

  • Fine motor skill development
  • Flame painting
  • Collage
  • Construction
  • Textiles

Grade 1&2:

  • Model making
  • Construction
  • Linking art and literature
  • Modelling with Magiclay/clay
  • Lego Printing

Grade 3&4:

  • Line and pattern work
  • Construction
  • Modelling
  • Technology/iPads in Art

Grade 5 &6

  • ANZAC Day inspired art and literature study – Sidney Nolan Gallipoli series
  • Workshop with Artist-in-Residence, Tony Sowersby/Cartooning
  • Shape, line, design and colour focus to create 2D art – based on the styles and work studied of famous artists e.g. Van Gogh and Picasso
  • A ‘Visual Arts’ themed painted wall mural-(continuing from 2016) for the 1/2 Play Area
  • Fabric and Textiles Exploration
  • Melbourne City Camp inspired artwork e.g. Federation Square sculpture

In addition:

  • Preparation for, and participation in, Open Night for Education Week
  • Assessment and Reporting
  • Lunchtime Art Club for students in Grade 4,5 &6.

Art Starters for 2017

Prep:

  • Colour focus-rainbow art, primary and secondary colours, the colour wheel.
  • Fine motor skill development

Grade 1&2:

  • Kandinsky inspired art-colour theory, concentric circles
  • Paul Cezanne-still life apples
  • Painting shapes, printing, weaving
  • Summer fun inspired art-line and shape theory, drawing and painting sea creatures

Grade 3&4:

  • Matisse inspired art-paper cut-outs, shapes, collage
  • Weaving, line and pattern work

Grade 5 &6

  • Pop art study
  • Australian artist study-Ken Done, Charles Conder
  • Shape, line, design and colour focus to create 2D art based on the styles and work studied
  • Weaving-for ‘The One Million Stars to End Violence’ project
  • A ‘Mandarin’ themed painted wall mural-(continuing from 2016) for the 1/2 Play Area

In addition:

  • Preparation for, and participation in, the Berwick Show Society Schools Art Display
  • Toyota Car Competition
