Performing Arts Term 2 overview 2017
During this term we are concentrating on music, in particular rhythm and beat.
- Prep: Students are learning how to respond and play to the beat of the music and also identify high and low sounds.
• Grade 1 and 2: Students are learning new songs to sing and developing their ability to play simple rhythm patterns. They are also learning to tell the difference between beat and rhythm.
• Grade 3 and 4: Students are learning to read annotated rhythm patterns and play in time to the music. We will also be using guitars and keyboards arrangements to play popular songs.
• Grade 5 and 6: Students are exploring different musical styles including Funk, Calypso, Hoedown and Boogie Woogie. They are developing a ‘feel’ for each style and learning to play arrangements and different syncopated rhythm patterns. We will also be using guitar, drum and keyboards arrangements to play popular songs.

Prep: Students will learn how to move safely around the room and respond to imaginative scenarios with the use of mime.
Grade 1 and 2: Students will explore known stories through use of role play, mime, thought-tracking and still image.
Grade 3 and 4: Students will develop their ability to work cooperatively within a group, to create a variety of scenes using role play, mime and still images.
Grade 5 and 6: Students will experiment with improvisation. They will creatively respond to a stimulus and make use of appropriate language, to provide information to the audience. They will also reflect on character feelings through creating sound montages and an avenue of thoughts.
