Mandarin blurb Term 2 2017

PREP

Prep students are continuously provided with a happy and positive learning environment in order to promote interest and build their confidence in Mandarin.  In term 2, students will continue to learn the expression and songs of greeting and classroom routine. They are also introduced to the culture and one of the traditional Chinese festivals-Dragon Boat Festival.

GRADE 1-2

In term 2, Grade 1- 2 students will continue to build on their vocabulary. They will learn how to name the 12 Chinese Animal Zodiac and express their likes and dislikes. They have further developed their ability to raise questions such as ‘Which animal do you like/dislike?’, ‘Do you like … (animal)?’ Students were also introduced to the culture and one of the traditional Chinese festivals-Dragon Boat Festival.

GRADE 3-6

In Term 2, Grade 3-6 students will continuously focus on learning the words and phrases relating to the classroom. They are expected to use the sentences ‘This is ……’, ‘Can I please have ……?’ to communicate with teachers and peers in the classroom and learn to write some related Chinese characters. Students were also introduced to the culture and one of the traditional Chinese festivals-Dragon Boat Festival.

MANDARIN COURSE OUTLINE FOR TERM 1 2017

PREP

Prep students are provided with a happy and positive learning environment in order to promote interest and build their confidence in Mandarin learning. In term 1, students will learn the expression of greeting and action. They are also introduced to the legends and customs of Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival in cultural lessons.

GRADE 1-2

In term 1, Grade 1-2 students continue to build on their vocabulary. They will learn how to name animals, express their like and dislike and write some related Chinese characters. They will further develop their ability raise the questions .E.g. ‘what is your favourite animal?’, ‘Do you like…?’ Students are also introduced to the 12 animal zodiacs, the legends and traditions about Chinese New Year in Cultural lessons.

GRADE 3-6

Grade 3-6 will focus on learning the phrases relating to classrooms. They are expected to use the sentences ‘This is ……’, ‘Can I please have ……?’ to communicate with teachers and peers in the classroom and learn to write some related Chinese characters.  Students are also introduced to the 12 animal zodiacs, the legends and traditions about Chinese New Year in Cultural lessons.

Extension groups

The Extension group continues to use the Chinese textbook ‘Experiencing Chinese’ and its workbook which focus on writing and reading.  The students will learn the Chinese Pinyin and some useful expressions from the book. Besides, they will experience Chinese calligraphy and making Chinese knot.
